Some dancers might not think there is any reason to show up early for their shift at RI Dolls. But there’s good reason why some of them have found that it is a good practice. So, when you show up early, you’re actually helping the dancers who are on their shift already.

So, if you show up a little early, you can take some of that time to do some stretches and warm up your muscles before you get on the stage. You will be less likely to have injuries if you do some light stretching before you start the real work out of your dance routines. And your routines will go a lot more smoothly if your body is warmed up and ready to go when you get out on the stage.
It’s also good ethics to show up a little early for a shift, no matter what your job is. It shows the managers that you care about your job and that it matters to you. It shows your co-workers that you’re a team player. Maybe someone has had an injury or is not feeling well and needs to leave early. If you show up early you’ll be ready to fill in for them, if needed. You can talk to the DJ and make sure that your dance track is ready to go and he can ask you any questions he might have or you can find substitutions for a song if he doesn’t happen to have it. Showing up early for your shift gives you a chance to tie up any loose ends before you actually have to start working.
And the bottom line is that, by showing up for work early, you can make more money in the long run. You’re ready to go when your shift starts but before your shift starts you can get a good feel for the vibe of the room. Some nights are different than others. Customers come and go. Take a look around the room and see if your regular clients are there and be ready to go see them when you are on the floor. Is there someone new in the room? Be ready to welcome them. Is there a big spender? Make them feel at home. By knowing who is there before your shift even starts you’ll know where to put your focus when you’re finished on the stage.
It doesn’t take a lot of effort to come to work a little earlier than your shift starts when you’re a dancer at Rhode Island Dolls but it can make a difference in how well your shift goes. You get a chance to get ready for work at a slower pace and you can get into the dancer mindset and be ready to make money as soon as your shift starts. It’s to your advantage!
